Making Music At Home

When schools closed in March due to the coronavirus epidemic, Mr Taylor, the head teacher at Writtle Junior School, Essex, asked me to create a series of videos to encourage children to make music at home. Below is a list of the videos I have created to date and a brief outline of their content.

Video 1 demonstrates how to make a DIY drum kit and to play a simple rock rhythm.

Video 2 builds upon the drum pattern of video 1 and shows children  how to play the rock classic, We Will Rock You.

Video 3 goes back to the roots of blues, gospel and American folk music and introduces children to the wonderful world of skiffle and creating home made instruments.

Video 4 offers aspiring young drummers some really useful tips on modern rock drumming and drum fills.

Video 5 focuses on instruments that many children may have at home, recorders, keyboards, ukuleles and guitars. The video is geared towards complete beginners to those a little further up the musical ladder. A Music Pack is available with this video containing all the music/tabs plus an MP3 of the featured song.

Video 6 picks up where video 5 left off, with more music for recorders, keyboards, ukuleles and guitars. In addition, it features a swing/shuffle beat for young drummers to try. A Music Pack is available with this video containing an mp3 and music/tabs for all the featured instruments.
